Supported by Technical and Project-Based learning
The Sixth Form Curriculum is fully compliant with the Department for Education’s 16 to 19 Programmes of Study Guidance.
All students have programmes of study which include:
- Substantial qualifications that stretch them and prepare them for education at the next level or for employment;
- Work Experience, including Work Experience placements, to give them the opportunity to develop their career choices and apply their skills in real working conditions;
- Other non-qualification activities to develop their character, broader skills, attitudes and confident and to support progression;
- GCSE English Language and Maths lessons if they have not achieved a GCSE grade 4.
Students complete technical projects which will help them develop work ready skills. By Sixth Form level, students are likely to be exploring some specialist careers which really interest them.
These might be such things as cyber security, biotechnology, games development, e-health or personalised medicine. There are, of course, many more like this which may spark their interest.
All students benefit from personalised careers advice, guidance and support from UTC staff and industry partners.
All Post 16 students have an oportunity to expand their CV and complete at least two weeks of work experience.
Through our Futures Programme, you will develop an impressive digital CV that will secure a positive destination in the Digital or Health fields.
When planning and delivering teaching and learning in Year 12 and 13, we have the following key aims:
- To help our students achieve the best possible outcomes.
- To help our students to become effective independent learners.
- To help our students develop work-ready skills such as communication, team work, leadership and problem-solving skills.
There is available Careers and Higher Education guidance, drawing on the careers service wherever such support is available. The intent is to have 100% of Year 13 graduates go on to positive destinations.
Students are expected to develop as Independent Learners throughout Key Stage 5. To facilitate this, students have periods every week where they will be in independent learning time and encouraged to use the time effectively to meet the targets set by their teachers.
All students have access to a wide enrichment programme through our Futures Program with the intent of developing student's personal skills, interests and passions and supporting their career development.
All students in the 6th Form have a bespoke programme within our Futures Program including two weekly timetabled sessions.
